A personalised pathway begins with understanding your concerns.

Understanding jaw tension.

TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint, the joint connecting the jaw to the skull. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) can affect the jaw joints, the surrounding muscles or both. Jaw tension and overactive muscles can be associated with clenching, grinding, facial tension and discomfort. A consultation helps establish whether a Zeeba pathway may be appropriate for you.

This page provides general information only and does not replace individual clinical advice, assessment or diagnosis.

What to discuss at your consultation.

Tell us what you have noticed, how long it has been happening and how it affects you. Your concerns and relevant history help guide the discussion.

  • When tension or discomfort occurs and whether you notice clenching or grinding
  • Relevant dental or medical history, including previous assessments and current care
  • Current medicines, allergies and any circumstances that may affect suitability
  • Your goals, questions and expectations

A consultation does not commit you to treatment. It is an opportunity to understand the proposed plan and ask questions before deciding.

Suitability, risks and realistic expectations.

Jaw symptoms can have different causes. Suitability is assessed individually, and not everyone will be offered treatment. This website cannot diagnose the cause of your symptoms.

Before any treatment, the proposed approach, alternatives, relevant risks, practical considerations and aftercare should be discussed with you. Outcomes vary and cannot be guaranteed. The type of treatment, number of appointments, cost and follow-up arrangements are discussed as part of your individual plan.

Aftercare and follow-up.

Aftercare depends on the treatment and your individual circumstances. Follow the instructions provided for your plan and ask about anything that is unclear. Do not stop prescribed medication without advice from the clinician who prescribed it.

For concerns after treatment, follow the contact guidance you are given. For urgent or severe symptoms, seek appropriate urgent medical care.

Common questions about jaw tension.

Does jaw tension always mean I have a TMJ disorder?

No. Jaw tension alone does not establish a diagnosis. An individual assessment is needed to understand your symptoms and the appropriate next steps.

Will treatment stop clenching or grinding?

No specific outcome is promised. Your concerns, suitability and realistic expectations are discussed before a plan is agreed.

How do I request an appointment?

Use our consultation request form. Sending the form is a request, not a confirmed appointment. Please keep medical details out of the general enquiry form.
